Introduction

Therapy of gastric ulcer is directed either reducing acidity and pepsin activity or enhancing mucosal resistance. There are numerous problems in assessing the efficacy of any drug treatment of ulceration. These include the tendency of ulcer spontaneously to remit and relapse over a relatively short period of time. In some patients, ulcer of similar size and depth tend to heal faster than in other individuals. It can thus be very difficult to decide whether rapid healing is attributable to a particular drug.
